Channel In Channel Out - Contaminate The Optimist

Hailing from the Pacific North West Channel In Channel out aka Marcus Cotton is a distant
voice waging a one man war on scepticism. Sparse yet spellbinding Channel In’s music
seems touched by some kind of classical genius.

Contaminate the Optimist is the musical gem on this month’s get to know list. Available
from May 21st on Imoto Records it’s an album filled with the kind of wonder usually
reserved for a kid in a garden full of creepy crawlies.

The revolving patterns of tracks such as Molecules Evaporate and Exert Some Literature
demand your attention. Trying to get something done when this is on your stereo is like
trying not to chew an opal fruit. The only option you have is to stare out of the window
and watch the sunlight for the full five minutes twenty four.

It is according to the man himself – part of a search “to find something that fascinates”

As the name suggests though there is another side to Contaminate The Optimist.
A stripped mix of Shadowesque drum patterns, bassey keys, falsetto vocals and the
spookiest acoustic ever result in moments of haunting simplicity. Tracks, such as
This Narrow Scope is Microscopic and Eat Scepticism would make the perfect
accompaniment to the main course of any arthouse antihero’s naked lunch.

Having already appeared on a Japanese label Schole’s 2006 compilation as well as a
digitally released ep and compilation appearance through 912 records, Channel In’s
debut on Imoto is truly intriguing. With work on a second album well underway as well
as a number of planned live shows there’s a whole lot on the way.

Talking about what’s to come Channel in says - “Today I am looking forward to the
future because I have a lot of people to touch, a lot of people to unplug.”

“ Cotten is simple, intimate, talented and still inspires us. A remarkable and inspirational voice that echo's the incomparable
Neil Young. Marcus has succeeded by creating musical magic that touches your heart and empowers! A very meaningful solo release for Marcus Cotten.”
- Blue Tracks.
