21 Jul 2008 - Panthalassa the new Single from Swimming Out Now!
You may normally associate The East Midlands with a few gritty Shane
Meadows movies and some iffy crime stats but Swimming’s epic, boundless
sounds are set to change all that. In equal parts blissed out stargazing
and full on sonic walls, the five piece have been tucked away through out
2007 writing and recording their debut album, The FireFlow Trade in
between trips to Rosy Lee’s Tea shop, so readying the sound of Swimming.
New single Panthalassa is like necking a shot of adrenalin drawn straight
from the pounding heart of a high speed chase hero. Ruthless in it’s drive and pace the band unite a clear love for big sounds (The Arcade Fire,
Spiritualized, Mogwai) with brain teasing hooks and banks of inspired, golden vocals.
B side, There’s A Mountain comes in where Panthalassa left off. A grandiose slice of what Swimming are best at, it’s led with the trademark harmonies that fill the band’s music. Lines such as “Sheer delight is flying out from the fire” swell up with typical heartfelt energy.
In their own words, the bands sound is a result of
“ a few of grungy kids who went and discovered the Boards of Canada”
Released initially as a digital single Panthalassa/There’s a Mountain will also feature on the five track Primary EP (Izumi) due out in August. Primary will also boast two other exclusive tracks as well as a first airing of album closer and future classic All In Time To The Shoreline.
Touring and gigging over the last year with the likes of Black Arc, The Mystery Jets, The Late Greats and The Wave Pictures has developed Swimming into a thrilling live band who are making their mark with a sound completely set apart from it’s contemporaries in it’s scale and ambition.
Absorbing, intent and at times almost trancelike, the band live out every moment of every song, building the absurd peaks and near silent calm that is their mesmeric world.
